Don’t Let a Workplace Accident Prevent You From Enjoying Your Life

When it comes to workplace accidents, some are more likely to leave you at home recovering longer than others.

Although it’s always important to protect yourself from all workplace hazards, it never hurts to know a few of the top hazards that could leave you at home on your back.

So, here are 3 that make up more the 75% of those lost workdays.

1.Overexertion.

Although there are other parts of the body that are affected by overexertion, the back is the most common part of the body affected.

You’ve either experienced it yourself or know someone who has bent down and tried to pick something up that was a little too heavy and – bam – that shooting pain rolls through the back.

The most common age group at risk are those between 45 and 64.

Typical number of days away from work is 12.

Overexertion is an easy hazard to prevent.Know your limits and don’t exceed them, even if you think it might impress someone.

2.Slips, Trips and Falls.

Injuries from slips, trips and falls leave about every part of your body in pain with sprains, strains and tears.

We’ve all experienced it. We’re at work just doing our job and we find ourselves falling forward, maybe even to the ground.“What just happened?Did anyone see me? I’m going to feel that in the morning.”

The most common age group at risk are those 55 and older.

Typical number of days away from work is 12.

If you are looking for a good way to prevent slips, trips and falls, keeping your workspace and aisles free of debris goes a long way in making that happen.

3.Contact with equipment or objects.

When it comes to contact with equipment or objects, we tend to leave a lot of blood on the floor with cuts, lacerations and punctures.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve known several people over the years who have made their way from the workplace to the ER to be stitched up and even a few who have lost a finger or two.

And if some of you younger guys were thinking it is only us older guys that need to be careful – the most common age group at risk are those 16 to 24.

Typical number of days away from work is 5.

Every day employees all over the country overexert themselves, experience a slip, trip or fall, come in contact with equipment or objects in an unexpected way, and many walk away with only a scratch and a few slight aches and pains. But for others it ends with them at home missing out on life and in serious pain.

Don’t let a workplace accident prevent you from enjoying your life.
